Teddy Bridgewater Considering Jay-Z & Roc Nation For Representation

teddy-bridgewaterTeddy Bridgewater, the Junior Quarterback from the Louisville Cardinals, only recently signaled his intention to forgo his Senior year and enter the NFL Draft. He is high on everyone’s mock draft boards, in most cases at number 1. With the Houston Texans in need of a QB, Teddy seems a perfect fit. He is coming off a dynamite season, throwing for over 3500 yards and leading his college to the 2013 Sugar Bowl.

Even though Bridgewater only signaled his desire to declare for the draft in the last day, word has spread that he has met with Jay-Z and Roc Nation about joining their agency. Jay-Z himself cannot negotiate the contract, but Roc Nation do have Kim Miale, a licensed NFL agent, on staff.

Tim Tebow Switches Over To CAA

Tim TebowTim Tebow, arguably still one of the most talked about athletes, has moved from WME to CAA for his off-field representation. This includes all his appearances, TV and film roles, and other endorsements. CAA Sports had previously negotiated all of his football-related arrangements, so now they will handle all of his business opportunities.

CAA (Creative Artists Agency) have a very strong portfolio in representation of both sport and entertainment clients. Sports stars in their stable include the Manning brothers, Shaun White and Sidney Crosby. On the film side, they represent a host of clients including Jennifer Aniston and Robert DeNiro.

The 26 year old Quarterback has not appeared in the NFL since being cut from the New England Patriots in August this year. Since then, he has been working on getting back on a roster, even turning down a lucrative short-term deal with a Russian NFL side to prove his dedication to making the big time.

He currently has deals with Jockey, TiVo and Nike. Tim is still one of the most recognisable faces in America, and having all his business handled by one agency will certainly help him in the future.

NFL Star Loses Endorsement By Tweeting About The Competition

vernon_davisESPN’s Darren Rovell has reported that San Francisco 49ers star Vernon Davis has lost his endorsement with Vita Coco after publishing a tweet supporting a competitor. Vita Coco is a worldwide leader in Coconut Water. Vernon signed with the company in August of last year, and re-signed with the company a mere 10 days ago. It was on the same day that he published the following tweet stating he uses Body Armor, a ‘super drink’ packed with twice the electrolytes of a normal sports drink. Here is the tweet which caused VitaCoco to terminate their agreement:

What lesson can be learned by this? Simple. Don’t endorse a competitor of a company that is paying you to endorse their product. No doubt VitaCoco would have had clauses in their agreement with Vernon stating he was not to promote a drink in the same industry through any channel.

This is is a similar situation to that of soccer star Ronaldinho, who lost his sponsorship with Coca-Cola after drinking from a can of Pepsi at a press conference.
