A winner on the LPGA Tour at only her second professional start, Lydia Ko has signed on with IMG for management and marketing representation. The 16 year old sought an exemption to play on the tour, as rules state that a golfer must be 18 years old to compete.
The New Zealand golfer is currently ranked 4th in the world. She improved her ranking after a last start win at the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters. She has also captured the 2012 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in her short career.
Ko’s signature was one one of the most contested on the tour, with her family meeting with several leading agencies. Ultimately it was one of IMG’s top agents in Jay Burton who snared the deal, and he has wasted no time in working with her. It has been reported that a major sponsorship deal will be announced within days. The day-to-day management of her career will still be handled by her family.
IMG Golf is one of the leading companies in their field, boasting an arm that includes event sponsorship and management, marketing and athlete representation. They also manage LPGA golfers Michelle Wie and Paula Creamer.
