Finally some good news for St. Kilda with what has been a tumultuous couple of months for the club. Captain Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna have re-signed on multi-year deals. Riewoldt will remain at the club till the end of the 2015 season, while Montagna has signed till the end of 2016. It is highly likely that both players will retire after their respective contracts.
The news will come as a relief to St. Kilda fans who have seen their club go through a tough period recently. The club lost one of their favorite sons in Nick Dal Santo to free agency, traded away their starting ruckman and fired their coach Scott Watters.
It appears that the club are in a re-building phase, with these two looking to provide experience and leadership to a relatively young list of players.
As with most AFL contracts, financial terms are not disclosed, though it is likely that the players will be receiving in the vicinity of $400k-$500k per season. Nick Riewoldt famously took a $500,000 pay cut for the 2013 season.
Nick Riewoldt is managed by Stride Sports Management, while Leigh Montagna is managed by Elite Sports Properties
