Both GWS and Melbourne have said on AFL360 and Trade Week Radio respectively that they are willing to part with their first round picks should a suitable offer surface. Tom Boyd, the key position forward from Eastern Ranges, is a lock for the number 1 overall pick. He excelled in the TAC Cup final, kicking 4 goals.
Despite missing out on Buddy Franklin, GWS aren’t necessarily looking for a key forward, as they already have All-Australian full forward Jeremy Cameron and former number draft pick Jonathon Patton. GWS are on the lookout to add an experienced player to their roster this year. There is a strong rumour that they may approach Fremantle for Nathan Fyfe, but at this stage, that is just speculation. Fremantle are in the market for a forward to take over from Matthew Pavlich when he retires, and Boyd could fill that role.
Melbourne, under new coach Paul Roos, are understood to be looking for an elite midfielder to add to their list. Backman Heath Shaw, who will most likely leave Collingwood, is also in the mix.
